JLCPCB vs Next Everything: one project, four carts or one?

JLCPCB, LCSC, JLC3DP and JLCCNC vs Next Everything, as of October 2026: price, scale, the JLCPCB MCP servers, and how to order a PCB from Claude.

Ask an engineer where the cheapest prototype boards come from and the answer is JLCPCB. Ask the same engineer to build the whole device, board, components, printed case, machined bracket, and watch the tab count. JLCPCB for the PCB, LCSC for the parts, JLC3DP for the case, JLCCNC for the bracket. Same group, four carts, four shipments, four tracking numbers.

So the question is not whether JLCPCB is cheap. It is. The question is how many orders one project takes, and whether your AI assistant can place any of them. This post compares the JLC group with Next Everything as of October 14, 2026, with sources for every claim about JLC, and only published facts about Next Everything.

What the JLC group is

JLCPCB is a PCB fabrication and assembly service, and the center of a family of brands: EasyEDA (schematic and layout tool), JLCDFM (manufacturability checks), LCSC (component distribution), OSHWLAB (project sharing), JLC3DP (3D printing), JLCCNC (machining) and JLCMC (mechanical parts). As of December 2025 the group reported more than 9.5 million customers, 21 million orders a year, 10,000 employees and customers in 180+ countries (JLCPCB about page). The company was founded in 2006 and is based in Shenzhen.

The scale is the point. Boards are priced for hobbyists and startups, with the same site serving enterprise buyers, and the EasyEDA to LCSC to JLCPCB chain means a design made in the group's own tool, with parts from the group's own stock, flows to assembly with little friction.

What Next Everything is

Next Everything is a free service that prices every part of a hardware project in one quote: electronic components, circuit boards, 3D prints and CNC metal parts, with delivery included. You ask your AI assistant to order the parts for a build, the service finds every part and shows you the price, and it orders exactly the ones you tick. Your assistant prepares the order; you approve the payment. No credit card is needed to sign up, and you pay only for orders you approve, at the price shown (product page).

The assistant reaches it over MCP from Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code and others. Without an assistant, you can upload a BOM, Gerbers, STEP or STL files or a DXF on the site. NextEverything Inc. is a US company and the service delivers to the US, Europe and the UK.

Scale Founded 2006, 21M+ orders a year One quote per project across four processes

Price and scale: where JLCPCB wins

If the project is a board, and you will assemble or source the rest yourself, JLCPCB is hard to beat on price. In one small-board comparison on an enthusiast forum, a 2-layer order was 2.8 times more expensive at PCBWay than at JLCPCB, partly because of a 24-hour option (AtariAge forum). Twenty-one million orders a year buys a lot of process optimization.

Quality reports are mixed, and we say that carefully. A 2023 forum thread describes thin solder mask and lifting traces (DipTrace forum), while a 2025 comparison of hobby PCB vendors says quality stayed consistent over years of orders (lcamtuf). For prototypes, most engineers we know treat JLCPCB as the default and reorder when something is off.

The catch: parts tied to one stock, and several orders per project

Two things make a JLC build more work than it looks on the price page.

First, assembly draws on LCSC's inventory. If the part you designed around is not in that stock, you are choosing between a substitute and a different workflow. That is fine for a design started in EasyEDA with LCSC parts; it is friction for a KiCad or Altium design with a BOM from Digi-Key or Mouser.

Second, the group's breadth is organized as separate sites. A device with a board, a printed enclosure and a machined bracket is three orders on three sites, plus the components if assembly does not cover them. Each has its own checkout, shipment and tracking. The group's own description of its brands makes the split explicit (about page).

Next Everything is built around the opposite assumption: the project is the unit. nx_scan_project extracts a normalized BOM from the repository, resolves every line to an orderable part and flags the ambiguous ones. nx_search_parts searches live stock by part number, spec or description, and ranks alternates by compatibility. nx_quote prices the whole build with shipping and duties, and nx_quote_fabrication handles a Gerber zip or a STEP, STL, 3MF or DXF file for pcb, pcba, fdm, sla, sls, mjf, cnc_mill, cnc_turn, laser or sheet_metal. Then one checkout link and one tracking view for every part (docs).

Can your AI order a PCB from JLCPCB?

This is the search that brought many readers here, so here is the state of play as of October 14, 2026.

JLCPCB has an official REST API, JLCAPI, covering PCB quote, order and tracking, stencils, 3D printing from quote to order, and components. It is free to apply for and aimed at enterprises and distributors, and it makes no mention of AI or MCP (api.jlcpcb.com).

On MCP, there are two servers worth knowing:

  • @jlcpcb/mcp on npm was first published on January 1, 2026, and reached version 0.5.0 on September 28, 2026. It searches parts and installs KiCad libraries. It does not place orders, and we could not verify that it is affiliated with JLCPCB despite the scoped name (npm registry).
  • The community server Eyalm321/jlcpcb-mcp exposes 28 tools, including Gerber upload, PCB quotes, 3D print quotes and *_create_order tools that place real, paid orders. Ordering is disabled by default and requires your own JLCPCB Open API credentials (Glama).

Around those sit helpers rather than order tools: kicad-happy, a set of Claude Code and Codex skills that prepare a KiCad project for JLCPCB and PCBWay with a human placing the order (GitHub); pcbparts-mcp, which searches JLCPCB, Mouser and Digi-Key from Claude (GitHub); and a KiCad MCP server with JLCPCB parts integration (Glama).

So yes, with the community server, an API key and ordering switched on, Claude can order a board from JLCPCB. It is a capable setup for someone comfortable running their own MCP server with credentials that can spend money. It covers the board, and separately the 3D print; the components, the CNC part and the sheet metal are still your job.

With Next Everything the path is one line in Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http nexteverything https://mcp.nexteverything.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer nx_live_your_key"

The server is remote, so there is nothing to run, and the key cannot spend anything: nx_checkout creates a payment link that you open and confirm. Quotes are valid for 24 hours and prices are landed, including import duties. Order parts for a KiCad project from Claude Code walks through it, and MCP in five minutes explains the protocol if it is new to you.

Honest caveats on Next Everything

The product page makes no price claims against JLCPCB, so neither do we: for the cheapest bare board on its own, JLCPCB is hard to beat. Delivery covers the US, Europe and the UK.

Verdict

Choose JLCPCB when you want the cheapest boards, when your design already lives in EasyEDA with LCSC parts, or when you are happy to assemble and source the rest of the device yourself. Its scale is real and its prices are the benchmark everyone else is compared against.

Choose Next Everything when one project needs a board, components, a printed part and a machined part, and you would rather make one request from your assistant, review one picklist and approve one payment. You give up the lowest board price for one order instead of four. For the same question on machined parts, see Xometry vs Next Everything; for part search specifically, Octopart vs Next Everything.
