Chip price increases 2027: what power, driver and MCU chips cost now

IC suppliers are reported to be raising prices on power management ICs, driver ICs and microcontrollers by 5% to double digits between late 2026 and early 2027, and TSMC plans 3 to 10% more for mature-node wafers from January 2027. Before that happens, here is what seven common chips cost on 25 October 2026, and where.

Which chips are getting more expensive?

The reported rises cover the chips almost every board has: power, drivers and microcontrollers. Sourceability, citing TrendForce and Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, sums up what has been announced or reported as of mid-October 2026:

  • Power management, driver ICs and MCUs: 5% to double-digit increases under consideration, late 2026 to early 2027.
  • Mature-node wafers at TSMC: roughly 3 to 10% more from January 2027. These are the older processes most MCUs and analog chips are made on.
  • NAND flash: Micron reported prices up about 30% in its fiscal fourth quarter. Memory is covered in our W25Q flash guide.

Most of these are expectations, not price lists. Nobody has published which part numbers go up by how much, so the useful thing to know is where you stand today.

What a 5 to 20% rise would mean for a board

For most hardware teams the chip rises are a few dollars per board, not a crisis. One of each of the seven chips costs $4.02 at JLCPCB. The six that DigiKey stocks cost $5.55 there against $3.24 at JLCPCB, 71% more.

Rise on these chipsPer board (JLCPCB prices)Per 100 boards
5%+$0.20+$20
10%+$0.40+$40
20%+$0.80+$80

The bigger number is still the choice of distributor: moving these chips from DigiKey to JLCPCB saves more than a 20% rise would add.

Is stock a bigger risk than price?

For some of these chips, yes. Our daily snapshots of JLCPCB stock over the last 120 days show:

  • STM32G030F6P6: out of stock six times, 38 stock changes. Mouser had none on 25 October; DigiKey had 70,401.
  • TPS563200DDCR and DRV8833PWPR: out of stock once each, now back with 9,009 and 23,835.
  • TPS54331DR, ULN2003ADR, TLV75533PDBVR and RP2040: stable, with three to six changes and hundreds of thousands in stock for the first two.

A chip that disappears for two weeks stops a production run; a 10% rise does not. How to swap one that runs out is in replacing obsolete and out-of-stock parts.

Should you buy chips ahead of the price rise?

Buy ahead only where the saving or the risk is real. A rough rule from the numbers above:

  • Buy ahead the chips whose stock comes and goes and that you cannot easily replace (the STM32G030 here), for the boards you will build in the next six months.
  • Do not stockpile cheap, stable parts like the ULN2003ADR or TLV75533. A 10% rise on $0.10 is a cent.
  • Check JLCPCB’s assembly class. The ULN2003ADR is a basic part and the TPS54331DR a preferred part, so neither adds the $3 extended-part fee. The other five do (what extended fees cost).
  • Price the whole BOM, not single chips. Prices, tariffs and stock change at the moment you order, and quotes are not price locks.

FAQ

When do the 2027 chip price increases start?

Reports point to late 2026 for some IC suppliers and January 2027 for TSMC’s mature-node wafers. Distributor prices usually follow with a delay of weeks to months.

Are passive components going up too?

The reports above are about ICs and memory. We have not seen a comparable announcement for resistors and MLCCs; JLCPCB basic passives are still a fraction of a cent (JLCPCB basic resistors and capacitors).

Are these prices with tariffs?

No. They are list prices in USD without shipping, taxes or import duties, which depend on where you are and where the part was made.

How do I check my own BOM?

Run it through the BOM checker for your board count; it shows the cheapest in-stock source for each line and which ones keep going out of stock. Microcontroller prices in more detail: MCU prices at JLCPCB, DigiKey and Mouser.

About the data

The numbers in this article come from Next Everything, an MCP server we build that lets AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor and Codex check a BOM against the JLCPCB/LCSC catalog and live Mouser and DigiKey prices. If you want to run the same check on your own BOM, the setup guides show how to connect it.

Next Everything is not affiliated with Mouser, DigiKey, JLCPCB or LCSC. Prices are list prices in USD at the time stated and change daily.
